📋 Jobs and skills
Each settler has job priorities in the 📋 “Jobs” window: 1 — most important, 4 — last, ✕ — doesn’t do it. With equal priorities, jobs go in column order. Newcomers get priorities by their skills.
| Job | Skill | What they do | Where |
|---|---|---|---|
| Construction | Construction | Carry materials to construction sites and build buildings, pave roads and bridges. | — |
| Field | Farming | Work in fields and with animals: farm, sheep farm, apiary, herb garden, nursery. | 🌾 Farm, 🪵 Nursery, 🧶 Sheep farm, 🌿 Herb garden, 🌾 Apiary |

| Forestry | Woodcutting | Plant saplings where 🌱 is marked (saplings are grown by the nursery). | — |
| Mining | Mining | Break rocks and mountains marked with ⛏: stone, ore, coal, clay, caches. | — |

| Research | Lore | Study the chosen research in the Study of antiquities (as many studies as there are rooms). | — |
| Cleaning | Hauling | In winter clear snow from roads and bridges. Trails aren’t cleared — they stay under snow all winter. Walking through snow is slower. | — |
| Guard | Combat | Guard the colony: during a raid they take their places by storage and fight the bandits (from chapter 4). | — |
Skill 0 — work is 40% slower than usual, skill 10 — 40% faster. Skills grow slowly. Items (tools, clothes with properties) and the settler’s tier help the most.
Settlers don’t stand idle: after an hour without work they pick up small useful things by themselves. Those with “Chopping” on gather brushwood at the forest edge (2 logs at a time, without cutting the forest) while there are fewer than 20 logs per settler. The rest go to study in the 📜 Antiquarian’s study or the 🏠 Guild hall (half again as fast there with masters): the skill of their main job — the one with the top priority — grows. A skill step takes 12 hours of study per level (from 4 to 5 — 60 h). How much is left is shown on the settler’s card, “📚 Study”. Real work always comes first: when it appears, they drop studying after the shift.
